House Bill 469 would make it illegal to giving AI systems personhood and also bar humans from marrying them.
Specifically, it would deem AI systems as nonsentient, meaning they wouldn’t be considered to have consciousness or self-awareness, among other human traits.
They also couldn’t be recognized as a spouse legally or serve in management or staff roles within companies.
“Even some of the brightest minds in the tech field are wondering just how sentient AI can become,” Alex Beene, a financial literacy instructor for the University of Tennessee at Martin, told Newsweek.
