INC. — Hyperbole is common in the tech world. Seemingly every new product is hailed as revolutionary or industry-changing, even when it offers just some basic advances on its predecessor. But when it comes to operating systems, it’s pretty hard to overstate the impact Windows 95 had.
When Microsoft introduced the software about 31 years ago, on Aug. 24, 1995, it brought a sea change to the personal computing space, making the machines much less intimidating for the general public and a lot more efficient for existing PC users.
The changes were so evident that the OS sold at levels more like one of today’s hit video games.
