A 66-year-old Austin tech veteran and songwriter finds her sound with AI

The words to Scrupski’s songs are all hers, drawn from a collection of poems she’s written across several decades — odes to lovers, tales of wins and losses, and the exorcising of the demons of domestic abuse.
But the music comes via artificial intelligence, honed and tweaked by detailed prompts Scrupski punches into a music-generating website called Suno.
In creating what she calls “human-forward” music in collaboration with AI, Scrupski says she’s taking advantage of a tool that gives her capabilities she doesn’t yet have.
Even so, she’s got her budding guitar collection, a microphone and persistence. Her goal: To someday be able to perform in public the songs she’s written with her AI collaborator.
