AI is fueling a new wave of credential attacks

DATA BREACH TODAY — Credential-based attacks continue to dominate breach activity as artificial intelligence strengthens attacker capabilities and exposes human risk, said John Bennett, CEO of Dashlane.
Bennett said many organizations treat password management as a compliance task instead of a core security layer. Limited adoption, employee friction and overreliance on single sign-on leave gaps.
He pointed to shadow IT and unsanctioned applications as persistent risks. AI-driven phishing campaigns now bypass traditional defenses and target users in real time through browser-based activity.
