Army 'jailbreaks' its own weapon systems to counter drone threats

WALL STREET JOURNAL  —   To give soldiers a better, single screen picture of the battlefield, engineers have been “hacking” the application programming interfaces, or APIs, of radars, interceptors, sensors and other systems in Colorado Springs to bypass their own restrictions. Some software updates have already been sent to soldiers in the Middle East and more updates will follow in the coming weeks, Army officials said.


“I don’t think something like this has happened at a scale or a speed like this probably ever, and certainly not under active wartime conditions,” Driscoll said.
