Microsoft launches new legal AI agent in Word

THURROTT —  This new Legal Agent in Word can draft edits in complex legal documents, inspecting citations, review tracked changes, and check contracts against internal playbooks. 


Microsoft says that legal teams remain in control of what the agent is doing, and they can review all edits and check comments created by the agent to explain suggested changes before applying them.


“Instead of relying on general AI models to interpret commands, the agent follows structured workflows shaped by real legal practice, managing clearly defined, repeatable tasks like reviewing contracts clause by clause against a playbook,” Microsoft explained.
